ALUMNI COUNCILS

The three CABIR Alumni Councils are voluntary associations who manage the CABIR Alumni networks in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. A central dimension of CABIR is to foster and expand the CABIR alumni network. CABIR’s Alumni Network has been growing continually and as of September 2010 includes 330 participants: 95 from Armenia; 101 from Azerbaijan; and 134 from Georgia. Given the growth of the alumni network, it was decided to formalize the three national alumni networks by creating national Alumni Councils in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The Alumni Councils are a force multiplier for CABIR that work at the interface between government institutions and individuals. They serve as a platform for discussion of new ideas for capacity building and reform. Each national Alumni Council is composed of members of the CABIR alumni network. An Alumni Council includes 6 members with different but related functions, as follows: a Director; Human Rights, Economics, Municipality, Social/Civic Event Managers and a Website Manager.
To maximize coordination regionally, since 2007/08 were created the positions of  National Regional Coordinator and Website Coordinator. The latter is also responsible for managing the Alumni Councils common website.

The overall Alumni Network is managed by an International Project Coordinator.
Each Alumni Council is responsible for organizing workshops, round-tables and seminars on human rights, humanitarian law and international economics, also at municipality level for Alumni, medium - to high-level officials, civil society, academicians, as well as social and civic events, lectures and receptions for all Alumni and invited guests. The Alumni Councils are also responsible for consolidating the Alumni network. This includes, for example, tracking the evolution of individual Alumni, keeping up to date the contact list of the Alumni and including inputs from other Alumni into Alumni Council's activities. Particular emphasis is placed on the open and transparent planning and implementation of the Alumni Councils’ activities.
